    Notes:

I do not really know who William Henry's father was. I have William because that is what is in the family history that has been passed down. But I've asked around and NO ONE knows where that information came from. I also have found several errors in the same history concerning William & Polly's kids, so I highly suspect the name of William Henry's father could easily be wrong. In the 1880 census, William Henry lists his father's birthplace as Maine. According to family stories that have been handed down, he was born in Holland. So which is right?
    (From Linda Thomas)

    Notes:

    Birth:
The Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy says that James was born 28 June, 1786.

    Emigration:
James Watkins, Jr. was born 6 Jun. 1786. He emigrated from Virginia to Ohio in 1809 and worked in Adams County, Ohio at his trade of brickmaking. He returned to Virginia and married Nancy Ann White on April 10, 1810. Their first child, Polly, was born in Virginia on 10 March 1811.

James and Nancy sold their 117 acres of land on 27 December, 1811 to John White Watkins. They then emigrated to Belmont County, Ohio in 1812. Their second child, Henry White Watkins, was born there on 2 May, 1813.

The family moved to the vicinity of Jefferson Township, Logan County, Ohio in 1816.

    Residence:
Living in the home of his son-in-law, Steven Harriman, and his daughter, Harriet White Watkins Harriman.

    Died:
The Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy says that he was buried in Goshen Cemetery, but, in fact, he was buried in the Quaker Cemetery in Perry Township.

    Buried:
The Goshen Meeting Minutes list him as buried in the Goshen Cemetery; however, he is buried in the Quaker Cemetery in Perry Township, Logan County, Ohio. His gravestone was still readable on September 18, 2006.

James married Nancy D. WHITE on 24 Apr 1810 in Sussex County, Virginia, United States. Nancy (daughter of John WHITE and Mary Ann CORNWELL) was born on 11 Mar 1785 in Sussex County, Virginia, United States; died on 6 Aug 1852 in Jefferson Township, Logan, Ohio, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  4. 15.  Nancy D. WHITE was born on 11 Mar 1785 in Sussex County, Virginia, United States (daughter of John WHITE and Mary Ann CORNWELL); died on 6 Aug 1852 in Jefferson Township, Logan, Ohio, United States.

    Notes:

The "Watkins Genealogy" originally published by Aaron Sherman Watkins says that Nancy's name was Nancy Ann White. However, both James Watkins' marriage bond and James and Nancy's marriage record show her as Nancy D. White. "Ann" is a nickname for "Nancy," and so it is likely that "Ann" was a nickname used for her. In the 1850 census, assuming I have actually found their listing, Nancy was listed as Ann.

    Birth:
Listed in Blackwater MM as Ann White

    Died:
Some question regarding the accuracy of this date. Another source says, "The Nancy Ann White, that was married to James Watkins Jr in Sussex County Virginia in 1810, was buried in the Marmon Valley Cemetery in Logan county Jefferson Tsp in Ohio. There are two Watkins tombstones. One has only the name Watkins. The other says Watkins, d 1861, 70y and wife of Jas. This info is in a book published by the Logan County Ohio Genealogical Society and available thru them."

    Notes:

    Married:
History of Logan County and Watkins Genealogy say that James and Nancy were married on 10 April, 1810. But the records in Sussex County say that they were married 24 April, 1810. Since James posted a marriage bond on 21 April, 1810, it seems unlikely that he would have been married on the 10th; therefore, I believe that the evidence supports 24 April, 1810 as their marriage date.

    Residence:
Census recorded him as James Wadkins. The family consisted of:

1 Male 26-45: James would have been 34
2 Males <10: Sons: Henry and Elisha

1 Female 26-45: Nancy would have been 34-35
2 Females <10: Daughters: Mary and Harriett

    Residence:
Census listed him as James Watkins with seven in the household:

    1 male 40-50: James was 44
1 male 15-20: Henry would have been about 19
1 male 10-15: Elisha would have been about 11
1 male <5: William would have been 4+

1 female 40-50: Nancy would have been about 45
1 female 15-20: Mary would have been about 19
1 female 10-15: Harriet would have been about 14

    Residence:
Listed as James Watkins, Jr. with three people living in the household.

1 male 50-60: James would have been about 54
2 males 15-20: Elisha would have been about 20 and William, about 15

1 female 40-50: This is probably an error as Nancy would have been about 55.

    Residence:
This citation may not be correct. The names are given as James and Ann Walker. But the ages and place of birth are correct. This census taker also misspelled the surname of another Watkins as Wadkins; so his accuracy may be suspected.
