- Forrest Charters
Funeral services for Forrest H.Charters, 69, of the St. Joseph Nursing Home will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the McLellan Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. at Notre Dame Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.Calling hours will be held at the funeral home this afternoon and evening.
Mr. Charters died Sunday (July 30,1978) at the nursing home. He had been in failing health for several years. Surviving are two step-daughters, Mrs. James (Patricia) Ayeres of Waverly, N.Y., and Mrs. Ralph (Suzanne) Hoagland of Livermore, Calif. Mr. Charters was born in Lisbon, Jan.17, 1909, the son of Hugh and Emma McLaughlin Charters. He attended Lisbon schools and was employed as a fireman for New York Central Railroad. Mr. Charters then entered the United States Army having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WW II. Following his tour of duty with the Army, Mr. Charters was employed as a truck transporter with the McConville Corporation, retiring in 1961. Mr. Charters was first married to Mary Moore Newcomb who died in 1965. He was then married to Amelia Barr Siiss, who died Dec. 12, 1977. Mr. Charters was a member of the Ogdensburg VFW and the F & AM of No.705.
