Notes |
- Next to Isaac Zane, it is most probable the Marmons-Robert, Martin and Samuel three brothers, from North Carolina-were the earliest white settlers coming in 1805. Robert settled on the farm on which his son, Joshua, resided for many years...
The Marmons were men of marked influence in the early settlement and improvement of the. country. They were members of the Society of Friends, and it is probable that it was in this sphere that Robert was most influential. Quiet and unobtrusive in his deportment, orderly in his daily walk, and liberal in his hospitality, he contributed largely to the encouragement and assistance of those less fortunate than himself.
