- Amelia Charters
Funeral services for Amelia Charters,66, of Hammond, were held Thursday at 9 a.m. at the McLellan Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. at Notre Dame Church. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Mrs. Charters died Monday (Dec.12, 1977) in Robert Parker Hospital, Sayre, Pa. where she had been a patient for the last three weeks. Surviving are her husband, Forrest, a patient at St. Joseph's Nursing Home; two daughters, Mrs. James (Patricia) Ayres, Waverly, N.Y.; Mrs. Suzanne Hoagland, Livermore, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Theodore (Helen) Gardner, Ogdensburg; two brothers, William and Helmer Barr of Ogdensburg; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Charters was born in Ogdensburg, Nov. 29, 1911, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Helmer Barr. She graduated from OFA. She was first married to Carl Cliss of Syracuse in 1929. Mr. Cliss died in 1966. She then married Forrest Charters of Ogdensburg. Mrs. Charters lived in California for 10 years before returning to Ogdensburg in 1966.Mrs. Charters was well known as a business woman and antique dealer in this area. Mrs. Charters was a member of Notre Dame Church
